What is oratop?

Oratop-light,simple DB monitoring tool for Linux

  • Available for : Linux x86-64,  Linux x86

NOTE: oratop can be used to monitor databases on other platforms but the executable must run on Linux with an Oracle client.

To monitor databases on other platforms simply define an alias in tnsnames.ora of the linux client and connect to the databases remotely as you would with sqlplus

  • Press d to toogle between  Realtime  and Cummulative monitoring
  • Press m to toogle between MODULE/ACTION and USER/PROGRAM_NAME display

This tool probably useful for system administrators, or like synopsis overview for DBA. This Oracle tool is really easy-to-use, very lightweight and simple for cursory Database performance overview. It can be downloaded from MOS [ID 1500864.1]. This tool made for Linux(x32 and x64) and 11gR2 only. Just run it authorizing with some privileged user:

Contect to a remote instance with wide display 132 
$ oratop -f -i 5 sys/sys@grac42 as sysdba

     Options:
         -i : Interval Delay (requires value in seconds, default: 3s)
         -f : Long format for header & section 4 (default: 80 column)
         -r : IORL mode for Section 2 (default is IOPS)
         -d : Real-Time Top 5 Wait Events (default: Cumulative)
         -m : MODULE/ACTION mode for Section 4 (default: USER/PROGRAM_NAME)
         -b : Batch mode
         -n : maximum number of iterations (requires number)
         -h : Help
